From Stone to Paper
Leo Marchutz and Lithography
A three-part lecture at the Institute for American Universities / American College of the Mediterranean
BETWEEN 1947 AND 1964, Leo Marchutz's sole means of artistic expression was lithography. During this 17 year period, he created over 700 unique lithographic editions. They represent the core and the largest part of his oeuvre. They also reflect his many innovations with regard to printmaking practice, which he lifted to a very high artistic level.
Learn more about Leo Marchutz and lithography during this three-part conference. Antony Marschutz, son of the artist, will present the publication of the first part of his father’s diary (1947-1960), a period of intense creative activity devoted to the art of lithography. Denise Lemoine, Project Manager of the Marchutz Catalogue Raisonné, will share recent discoveries and present a selection of recently-commissioned photographs of Marchutz's motifs in the streets of Aix, paired with the lithographs they inspired. Film director James Ruffato will reveal the focus of his forthcoming documentary film on Leo Marchutz and Lithography.
